It could be a pretty closed system (except for the sun) that uses solar power for power and to convert water into hydrogen and the hydrogen is used to generate electricity when there is no sun plus it creates water to close the loop. To us humans solar power might as well be perpetual since it still has millions if not billions of years to go.
